My clients and friends frequently ask me whether it makes financial sense to undertake certain home improvement projects, especially if they plan on selling their home in the next few years. They want to know if the particular project will increase the value of their home and whether they will be able to recoup their investment if they decide to sell.
The National Association of Realtors conducts an annual survey on this topic, interviewing hundreds of contractors and realtors to answer this question. Click the link below to see the report — it’s very interesting.
This Week in Pasadena
from Pasadena Now!:
The South Pasadena Art Benefit, which began as two local pediatricians’ drive to help children suffering the effects of Hurricane Katrina, has evolved into a community cultural and charitable event scheduled this year for Sunday, December 7.
The Fourth Annual South Pasadena Arts Benefit will run from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, at the Lieberman home at 1944 Milan Avenue, South Pasadena.
This year’s event will be hosted by the Liebermans, who started the effort, Shelley Stephens, and Debra Beadle. Over 20 local artists will be on hand with works for sale to benefit Katrina victims and their families. The funds collected will be sent to the New Orleans National Kidney Foundation for disbursement (and are tax deductible, organizers add).
Each year there is a special exhibit and this year, in honor of artist and author Leo Politi’s Centennial Celebration, a special exhibit of some of Politi’s original paintings and books will be on display along with a photo story board of his life. Politi’s son, Paul, will be a special guest and will talk to attendees about his late father.
Young and talented members of the South Pasadena Strings Orchestra will be adding to the event’s atmosphere with live musical performances. Local singer and songwriter Brad Colerik is also scheduled to perform. South Pasadena High School students will mount an exhibition of artwork as well. Local restaurants will provide food for a nominal donation.
